Uncle Nearest Straight Rye Whiskey is a bold and spicy expression that pays homage to the legacy of Nathan “Nearest” Green, the first known African-American master distiller. This rye whiskey is crafted using a unique 100% rye mash bill, setting it apart from many other ryes that often include a small percentage of other grains.Interestingly, the whiskey is aged in barrels that have been given an “alligator char” – a technique where the inside of the barrel is burned so intensely that the wood resembles alligator skin. This deep char imparts rich caramel and vanilla notes to the whiskey, balancing out the spiciness of the rye.
